Find below all the information you need to prep your stay with us!
Moñitos is located 2 hours and a half from Monteria, capital of Cordoba’s department, and a 10 hours drive from Medellín by car (or 1 hour plane trip between Medellín and Monteria). To get to María Moñitos Hostel you have several options.
The closest airport is located in Monteria, 2 hours and a half from Moñitos. From there, you have three options:
Buses to Lorica leave every 15 mins and those to Moñitos every hour. The best option for you depends on your arrival time at the airport, as the last bus from Monteria to Moñitos leaves at 5:30 pm and the last collective taxi from Lorica to Moñitos leaves at 5pm.
1) I PREFER AN EXPRESS TAXI: get in touch with us and we will help coordinate the commute with a trustful partner that will drive you directly to the hostel. Cost per trip: $200.000 COP for approximately 2 and a half hours.
2) I PREFER THE CHEAPEST OPTION: take a moto taxi from the airport to La Troncal (it will cost you approximately $4.000 and take you 5 minutes) and from there you can take the bus either to Moñitos either to Lorica, both drive by this road. If you take the one to Lorica, remember that once there you have to change for a collective taxi which is located in front of Olimpica, close to the bus terminal. The cost of this collective taxi is between $15.000 and $20.000.
If you decide to take the bus that will take you directly to Moñitos, it will leave you close to the village’s main square where you can easily find a moto taxi to the hostel. The bus should cost you around $28.000 and the moto taxi charges $4.000.

Bus options 🚌:
from any city in Colombia (Medellín, Bogotá etc.) you can get a bus that takes you to Lorica, and from there get the collective taxi to Pueblito, 2km from Moñitos. From there we will help coordinate a mototaxi that will take you to María Moñitos. To get to Lorica, we recommend you to travel with Rápido Ochoa o Expreso Brasilia. From Lorica, it will take you about 1h30 to get to Moñitos and cost you between $15.000 and $20.000 for the collective taxi, and $4.000 for the moto taxi.
If you are coming from Cartagena, the bus ride from its bus terminal to Moñitos lasts about 5 hours and we recommend the SOTRACOR company (phone number: (5)6533642) which leaves at 4 am and 11am. The bus will leave you in Moñitos.
If you are traveling from Necoclí, you have two options to reach María Moñitos. You can either take the to Montería and there change with the bus that leaves from Montería to Moñitos every hour from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm ($25.000). Or you can simply hop off the bus once it drives by Santa Lucía Las Tres Cruces and from there get another bus that goes directly to Moñitos. That bus goes through Santa Lucia Monday to Saturday around 7:50 am, 10:50 am y 13:50 pm. The second option is shorter but has less flexibility between both buses.
Road Trip from Medellín
There are 2 options: take the road through Caucasia-Montería or the other one through Urabá-Santa Lucía. Through Caucasía-Montería (485 km), the estimated travel time is 10 hours while the other road Urabá-Santa Lucía (587 km) takes about 14 hours (if you chose this road, note that the last 50 km is pure dirt road between Santa Lucia – Moñitos). Before taking the road, we highly recommend you to check if the roads are open, especially the one from Urabá as it is currently under construction. But the roads can also be temporarily closed due to strikes.
Our hostel does not have a swimming pool yet we have the biggest and most beautiful natural swimming pool only 60 meters from the hostel… the Caribbean sea! There you’ll find our beach bar where you can enjoy your favorite refreshing drink.
Sure! We are a pet friendly hostel, your pet can also enjoy his time at María Moñitos for only an extra 20.000 peso per pet per night. You only have to confirm availability with us before.
You can but our prices are inclusive of the food for a reason: there are no restaurants close by the hostel and the village is 2km away. Moreover the food offer over there is more restricted, simpler, more of a street food type of offer. With us, we can assure you that you’ll be delighted by the Caribbean seasoning of our dishes, but you can also enjoy delicious food from other regions of Colombia.
We recommend you bring repellent, shampoo, bath soap and sunscreen. Bring comfortable shoes for the tours you want to take, a hat and clothing that protects you from the sun. The climate in the Caribbean is very hot during the day and perfect at night. You never feel the cold! Also bring your water bottle so you can always hydrate yourself wherever you are.
